In their own words they are ‘the traditional English shop serving expatriots in both Greater New York and the United States with your favourite culinary treats from home’. And treat ourselves we did, as you can see, with no lard based delicacy left un-purchased. The verdict from James was a big thumbs up (although you may not quite believe it from the slightly pensive look in the photo as he investigates a packet of pickled onion flavour Monster Munch) and we’re pleased to say he is now fully initiated into the way of the sausage roll. Jolly good!

SAKS FIFTH AVENUE just launched this years ‘WANT IT!’ campaign with graphics created by Shepard Fairey (creator of The Obama Poster) on the day of Obama’s inauguration. We also know how long it takes to create a campaign like this for 75 stores across the states, it just proves what we always knew, that our good friend Terron Schaeffer (Saks’ marketing guru) is well ahead of mere mortals - God Bless Terron and Obama!

On reflection though, we realised that the last time anyone had actually been into Whittards was to return a rubbish present, which kind of says it all.

Having also visited the new Westfield mall in west London recently, it’s clear that to compete with online shopping, the retail experience must offer something extraordinary – theatre, entertainment and um, toilets. Although sad to see them go, we won’t miss the crap shopping experience of Woolies et al.

One more thing on Westfield, what is it with THAT logo? Eek…
