Anyhow, cast your mind back to the summer (was it that long ago?)… when we has sun and the girls were wearing massive sunglasses and tiny shorts. Back in July we had out annual TP summer barbecue – a chance for us to open our doors to friends and family and have a burger and a beer – great times for everyone. So great in fact that we had the local council noise police come around twice to tell us to turn the volume down – we’ve held this event for as long as I can remember and we’ve never had any complaints. The fact that we are next to one of Europe’s finest nightclubs does make you wonder…

It wouldn’t be a proper event without any posters, and for that we took inspiration from the barbecue itself. A special thanks to Jess, Basille, Dom and photographer John, for helping to ‘cook up’ a real treat. All items featured in the posters were burnt for real, on a barbecue. If there is one thing that I have learnt – apart from the fact that burning things is super dangerous – iMac’s take a really, really long time to burn. Keyboards and mice on the other hand are super quick!

Here are a few images I have collected which baffle me as to the expectations of intellect of the general public. Admittedly these are often put in place to cover legal backlashes, but that aside they are rather amusing. This label on the back of a packet of peanuts for example, has to say ‘may contain nuts’ due to the chronic sensitivity of some nut allergy sufferers, the others however are just ridiculous.

If a moustache hints at one’s personality, can it do the same for typefaces? Tor Weeks, a San Francisco-based art director that created this field guide, found out by turning brackets in various fonts on their sides. She writes on her blog: “I’ve always had troubles figuring out the personalities of fonts. Call me crazy but for some reason i think this helps me.” Kind of does, doesn’t it?

The poster made its debut at the fantastic Renegade Craft Fair in San Francisco last spring, but you can still buy it here.

Aimed at naturally competitive City workers the idea highlights the rivalry that exists in the office and encourages them to bring that to the pitch. In total 20 teams competed with Baker McKenzie becoming the champs in a stunning 3-0 win.

The Partners has designed a logo, posters and other promotional material for the five-a-side event.

So far, none of these have come true. Oh how fickle the British weather can be.

So it wasn’t a surprise to us, that the day that we planned to hold our annual summer party, the weather would play it’s part and decide that we would have ‘torrential rain’ and be five degrees lower than the rest of the week, then clearing up for Saturday and Sunday.

We would not be beaten! Come rain or shine, we had worked long and hard (booked caterers, ordered the beer and had invited too many people) to cancel, so we pushed on regardless.

Luckly for us the rain went quickly and the sun rose in the sky – okay, it might have been made from foam board but it all gave us hope!

You can view some of the pictures from the night on our Facebook page.

And here is the ever-so-frighteningly accurate invite that we sent out back in spring:

It only took a day from the first news reports of Swine Flu for this version to appear on blog Agency Spy. Originally rediscovered and reprinted by Barter Books in Alnwick, Northumbria (which incidentally, at 20p, sells possibly the cheapest cup of tea in the UK), the poster seems to have captured the public’s imagination. From the windows of Brooklyn real estate agents to an array of Flickr groups, everyone seems to have their own version.
A TP favourite: ‘Keep calm and make the logo bigger’

Fashion is all about timing. SAKS FIFTH AVENUE just launched this years ‘WANT IT!’ campaign with graphics created by Shepard Fairey (creator of The Obama Poster) on the day of Obama’s inauguration. We also know how long it takes to create a campaign like this for 75 stores across the states, it just proves what we always knew, that our good friend Terron Schaeffer (Saks’ marketing guru) is well ahead of mere mortals - God Bless Terron and Obama!
